Turf of the surf – Localism in Sydney

Ever since seeing Bra Boys, I’ve thought that the best way for Russell Crowe, the film’s executive producer, to deepen his understanding of the North Maroubra mob would be to learn how to surf there. He might, like the surfer I saw last summer, get headbutted. It’s no mean feat to headbutt someone else while sitting on your surfboard, but on a crowded, bad-tempered Saturday morning kindergarten behaviour can be the norm.
